Any Way to Practice Martial Arts Witha Broken Leg

  1. Hey everyone,

I've been doing martial arts for the last half dozen years, since I was thirteen (20 now). Mainly Tae Kwon Do. I love doing loads of loftier jumping and spinning kicks and lots of hopping on one leg whilst doing several kicks in a row with the other.

Recently though I made the stupid decision to give skiing a get and slid off the edge of a cliff, fracturing my fibula (the thinner bone in the lower leg backside the main one, the tibula) half mode betwixt my knee and ankle, about a ane-i.5cm break which hasn't completely separated. At present I'm in a big cast feeling pitiful for myself, waiting for information technology to heal so I can start kicking again..

I'one thousand simply wondering if anyone would know if this will mean I wont be able to practise what I used to be able to before fracturing it (foot shape, height of kicking, whether I'll have plenty strength to hop on it etc), long term wise after six months or then. Or if anyone has had a similar set back with their martial arts.

Make sure you get into physio every bit soon as your doctor allows, and y'all shouldn't take a trouble. Information technology'll likely be a long road dorsum, but I see no reason why yous tin can't get back at that place if you lot work hard & be smart about information technology.
  3. From personal experience I can tell you that yous can. I broke my leg a yr ago and I was doing Taekwondo for about 2 months. I was in a cast (3 months full leg, 2 months half leg) and then did two months of physical therapy. And I feel as good as new except for my talocrural joint being weak to stretching and weaker kicks from the leg.

You lot'll exist fine, just with how you physically over come things in TKD, yous can with a cleaved leg. Goodluck!

All injuries are dissimilar so information technology'south impossible to say for certain, but I would imagine that you'll exist ok.

But as lamaTKD Cait said yous need to get into physio equally quickly as possible.

If you're in the UK don't look for NHS physio, spend the greenbacks on a sports specialist physio if you can possibly afford information technology or get information technology equally a benefit from somewhere (I get physio on my wife's works BUPA policy for instance).

I cannot stress strongly enough how much of a difference a sports physio will make to the speed and completeness of your recovery.

    Best of luck :)

  5. i broke my right leg up the os pretty much all the manner up my shin and was lucky non to need plates inserted, ive never had any problems. only speak to a sports physio commencement.
  6. if Pecker "superFoot" Wallace can do it ...i'k sure you lot can.
  7. Equally Cait says, get a good sports physio therapist. I broke my leg when I was xiv years one-time. Straight through the growth plate of my left leg. Typically you will downwardly and out 4-8 weeks depending on the type of break and the Doctor'due south recommendations. Once out of the cast it is very of import to work on your foot's alignment. Making certain that you plant the foot correctly to obtain a "normal" gait. That is why having the physiotherapist is So important.

At present, the moment yous become out of the cast, make sure you have access to a pool. Doing even the slowest of kicking motions will accept resistance that will stretch and develope the muscles in that leg. Also, you tin piece of work on walking and your foot placement (again, your gait) if yous can stand in h2o upward to your mentum or chest. Yous can do the walking in mentum deep h2o right away. It will feel very weird but trust me; it works. Rehab is another 8-10 weeks depending on how carefully aggressive you lot are.

    Good luck..

  8. Cheers so much everyone for your replies! I'll become some physiotherapy every bit soon every bit I'm out of the cast. With determination I'g certain I'll go back in shape. I am in the UK so NHS would normally exist the kickoff option only I might invest in individual physio because I don't like to muck most when information technology comes to my body that I'grand in 24/seven lol
  9. I*ve broken my leg too and it only set me back well-nigh 6 or 7 months after information technology heals properly youl need to build the muscle dorsum upwardly due to atrophy caused past wearing a cast. then theres the what if i injure it once more mentality yous get when dorsum at grooming. but after that goes abroad it will be business as normal
  10. Yeah, breaking your leg is sort of a hidden approval. It teaches you to be more careful and shows y'all simply how fragile our bodies tin be. Other then that, the healing procedure is painful just interesting to watch.
